Subscision
What is it: Subscision is a treatment for mild acne scarring and an aid to injectable treatments for more severe scarring. Subscision will considerably improve the appearance of a scar but will never completely get rid of it. The area around the outside of a scar usually becomes fibrous and tough causing an indentation in the centre of the scar. A very fine needle is inserted into the skin surrounding the scar, at an angle of no more than 30º. The needle is then gently agitated, releasing the fibres and lifting the scar. In more severe scarring this method is used in conjunction with an injectable treatment such as New-Fill, Restylane or Collagen. The subscision helps to release the fibres while the injectable will fill the void in the centre of the scar, giving a smoother appearance overall.
How long procedure takes: up to one hour.
How long to heal: The skin may look pink or red following treatment but this should not last longer than a couple of hours (maybe longer on very sensitive skin).
How long it lasts: Several treatments may be needed 10 days to two weeks apart.
Risks: None
Pain: Uncomfortable. Ice is used rather than anaesthetic cream.
Skin Care: Odile recommends a range of skin care products individually tailored for the patient.
